I am a third semester pre-licensure nursing student at Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA. My clinical experience as a nursing student included assisting and observing vaginal and cesarean deliveries at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, and homeless healthcare outreach, and at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. My Bachelors was from University of Arizona in Family Studies and Human Development.
Environmental stressors can effect the pregnant mother’s health and the critical stages of infant development, especially for African-American women and infants. My career ambitions include becoming a Certified Nurse-Midwife so I am excited to be an intern in the Health Net Community Doula Program as I am eager to learn more about maternal health for under-served populations and I want to be an active participant in observing how impactful Doulas are for women of color.
