Joana Allis

Happy Mama Healthy Baby Community Doula

My name is Joana Allis. I am a DONA trained postpartum doula as well as a yoga instructor. As a postpartum doula, my work varies greatly depending on the needs of the family, evolving as those needs change and shift. I truly believe that each family deserves as much support as possible in the postpartum period and I see myself as a well-rested and grounded support who can help to navigate the new dynamics and challenges that come with the introduction of a new baby into the home.

Some of the services I offer include preparation pre-birth for the postpartum period; support for infant care; household support including light meal prep, organization, baby laundry; support for sibling adjustment; emotional support and care for the birthing person and other family members, helping to establish routines and systems to ease the postpartum period as well as providing resources when needed and, most importantly, an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. As a yoga instructor, I often include breath and movement practices in my work if the interest arises. I am comfortable offering my services in virtual or in-person settings. I am currently based between Los Angeles and San Diego, being able to work in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego.

As a queer woman, I look forward to working with other queer families. As a half-Brazilian daughter of an immigrant, fluent Portuguese speaker, I look forward to working with other immigrant families and/or Portuguese speakers. My goal is to support families in feeling empowered and full of agency as they adjust and learn their new baby and new selves. I focus on helping each family to feel comfortable and confident in their decisions and to trust their intuition in their role as caregivers. I am so grateful to be able to offer this work and look forward to meeting each family I will have the honor of supporting.
