ABOUT THE FATHERHOOD SUPPORT PROGRAM
Black expectant and new fathers are invited to participate in a safe and supportive space to share trials and tribulations of fatherhood with our Program Coordinator, Mr. TeDese Ross, MA, an experienced teacher and father of four. This initiative is funded by LA Care’s Generating Support for African-American Infants and Nurturer’s Initiative (GAAINS) to address disparities in Black maternal and infant health. This program will benefit low-income and uninsured persons in Los Angeles County.
In alignment with our comprehensive Nurturing Roots Postpartum Doula Service for Black Families,we are pleased to extend our specialized support to Black fathers-to-be and new fathers. Recognizing the crucial role that partners play during this transformative journey, especially their role in lowering rates of prematurity and infant mortality, we have curated a program designed to cater to their unique needs and concerns.
For mothers enrolled in our Nurturing Roots program, It is with great consideration that your partner is automatically enrolled in this program, allowing him to access a wealth of resources, guidance, and assistance tailored to his role as a supportive partner and new father. This dual-focused approach not only empowers fathers-to-be with the knowledge they need but also fosters a deeper sense of involvement and shared responsibility. “I believe that fathers and men bear the responsibility of overseeing the strategic direction and management of their respective families and communities,” says TeDese Ross, Fatherhood Program Coordinator.
TeDese is here to address any questions and concerns you may have and provide the necessary assistance to make this journey as smooth and enriching as possible.
Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of being a part of this significant chapter in your lives. We look forward to being of service and supporting your family’s unique needs in every way we can.
During one-on-one coaching sessions, TeDese and you will cover a variety of topics and also cater to the needs of the individual men, helping with GED completion, job training, Domestic Violence prevention, recovery, and child development and more. This service is free of charge and is confidential. Also, fun outings with dads and kids will be planned. Come meet other dads and make new friends. Get support for the amazing journey of fatherhood you’re embarking upon.
We also welcome experienced fathers, grandfathers and men in a fathering role who are interested in mentoring new and expectant dads to volunteer with this program.
