ABOUT THE FATHERHOOD SUPPORT PROGRAM
African-American expectant and new fathers are invited to participate in a safe and supportive space to share trials and tribulations of fatherhood This initiative is funded by LA Care’s Generating Support for African-American Infants and Nurturer’s Initiative (GAAINS) to address disparities in Black maternal and infant health. This program will benefit low-income and uninsured persons in Los Angeles County.
In alignment with our comprehensive Nurturing Roots Postpartum Doula Service for Black Families,we are pleased to extend our specialized support to African-American fathers-to-be and new fathers. Recognizing the crucial role that partners play during this transformative journey, especially their role in lowering rates of prematurity and infant mortality, we have curated a program designed to cater to their unique needs and concerns.
The program aims to support fathers in developing parenting skills, strengthening family relationships, and overcoming challenges that impact their ability to be engaged parents. Interventions include workshops on effective communication, conflict resolution, and financial planning, all tailored to meet the specific needs of participants. By fostering a supportive community and providing essential resources, the Fatherhood Program seeks to empower fathers to actively engage in their children’s lives and contribute positively to their families. Through these initiatives, participants will not only gain valuable knowledge but also build lasting connections with other fathers facing similar challenges. Ultimately, this program aspires to create a ripple effect, improving the overall well-being of families and communities as fathers become more involved and invested in their children’s futures.
For mothers enrolled in our Nurturing Roots Postpartum Doula Program, Your partner is automatically enrolled in this program, allowing him to access a wealth of resources, guidance, and assistance tailored to his role as a supportive partner and new father. This dual-focused approach not only empowers fathers-to-be with the knowledge they need but also fosters a deeper sense of involvement and shared responsibility.
