Intern

HMHBA Intern

My name is Jacky Monroy, and I am a high school senior in Southeast Los Angeles. I am passionate about pursuing a career in nurse midwifery. During my childhood, a family member of mine experienced surgical malpractice, and through this personal experience, I witnessed the adverse effects that the lack of patient advocacy can have on families, particularly those from minority backgrounds who face language barriers.

My keen interest in health education and biology has driven me to enroll in dual enrollment courses covering subjects such as psychology, chemistry, and nutrition. I aspire to deliver holistic and respectful care to patients from all walks of life. Additionally, I aim to provide comfort to Spanish-speaking families by conversing with them in Spanish.

I have gained valuable experience working with the Los Angeles Health Department, where I contributed to the creation of health education workshops focused on infant safe sleep. Furthermore, I volunteered at Miller’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, assisting in the pediatric infusion center and engaging in research administration.

As an intern at the Happy Mama Healthy Baby Alliance, I will actively participate in community outreach, manage social media platforms, and assist in recruiting participants for classes and training programs.
